Small boat
Flip over tillers that also hold down rudders when aft tiller being used
Hold down just before Top Dead Centre when tiller down and tiller held
by past TDC cam or occy strap. This allow the rudder to kick up as its
hold down is not past TDC.
When shunting, release tiller extension, work sail to reverse
and rudders reverse. Tiller kicks up slightly and releases as it hits
small ramp on hull, allowing movement of water and buoyancy of rudders
to lift rudders and flip tiller. Pull tiller extension on now aft
rudder to unflip tiller and pull rudder down

Big Boat
Idler arms and tillers on edge of cockpit. Attach tie rod to quadrant
in such a position that it makes a right angle to the line from its
point of attachment to the rudder shaft when rudder is exerting max
load. Again flip over tillers for hold down of rudders.
When beams collapsed for going into tight area, remove tie rod from
tiller and steer with tie rods
Skinny water: kick up rear rudder and lock in slightly down position
with slight lift, ie boat is falling off. Steer with sails and front
rudder dangling. If schooner rigged, drive with foresail only to bring
driving load forward and reduce load on rudders. If Ballestrom rig ,
possibly reduce main.
Will draw up in a few weeks time. Nearly through my back log.
