Here is a picture (not my boat)of the same design rudder I have. You may find other pictures in Trailer Tris yahoo forum.
 
 
I do not know if you have to be a member to view photo's.
 
You can also see a picture with several Trailer Tri's on beach on the F-Boat.com web sight under the Construction tab.
 
 
My boat is a TT720 and you can see the design under the background/ history tab
 
 
Even if you maintain a 20% balanced rudder when pivoted,  I believe the remaining 60% that is not balanced will move back from pivot axle and increase load.  The center of area of unbalanced area will be moved farther away from pivot axis.

Hi,

Yes, I was planning on a 17-20% area in front of the shaft to balance the rudder in either position. Can you refer me to pictures of the kind of swing rudder you have, so that I can compare?
