G'day,
For those not familiar with it, Sailing Anarchy is a site run by a guy
in San Diego. It boasts more viewers than any other yachting site. A
couple of years ago, the owner put SA's muscle behind a Chinese built
sport boat, the Fltying Tiger 10m and they got about 100 deposits for
boats before the first one was built. There were some teething
troubles with the first few boats, but they are now well on their way
to becoming a popular world wide class.
It would be exciting to get SA backing for a China built harryproa,
which may happen if there are enough positive replies. Anyone wishing
to do so, please feel welcome. Be warned, though that the SA mob
play/write pretty rough.
To answer Raps' questions, the only real difference between them is
the length of the lee hull, 15m/50' vs 12m/40'. Solitarry would be
quicker in all conditions except the very light, I think. Not sure by
how much, will be very interesting to see. The advantages of easy
shipping (in a 12m container) and towability will make the trailer
sailor a more viable boat for most people.
Gardner, feel free to post anything I write. I usually try to post
everything here first, but as the production boat I am talking about
in the thread has not been completely designed yet, there is not much
to say. However, it will be broadly similar to the boat Rapscallion is
building, featured near the end of the last newsletter/update.
The price is a guess, but should be in the ball park. The doubles are
made by adding an insert across the hull to extend the sleeping area.
They are "cozy doubles". Unlikely that two couples would sail
together for long on this boat, but one couple and two kids would
have a ball.
