G'day,

My race experience is with the little ones, that is why i mentioned
them. There are no big race ones, yet.

I would not compete in a downwind gybing duel. It will always be
quicker to sail your own course, with one, or maybe two gybes. If
someone is sitting on your breeze, sail higher or lower to get clear
air. This applies to all large multis, in my experience.

Upwind, it is a different story, but I would happily get in a
tacking/shunting duel with any of the boats you have mentioned,
especially the 40' cats (was XL2 racing?). The more shunts/tacks, the
better. If it was a singlehanded race, I would be pretty confident of
winning a tacking duel. There are still a lot of techniques to learn
about shunting with a full crew.

Wangi is a cool regatta, and one I would love to do in a harryproa.
How many boats were there? Is it on a web page anywhere, or do we
wait until the next Multis mag?

I am in Brisbane in a fortnight to go for a sail on Rare Bird, among
other things. Not a racer by any stretch of the imagination, and not
my boat to invite you for a sail, but I daresay i could arrange for
you to have a look at it if you like.

regards,

Rob
