G'day,

There are two things to solve. First is keeping the boat on course,
and Robert's idea seems sound for this. The second is, that as the
boat accelerates, the app wind comes forward, the sails luff and the
boat slows down. Therefore, if we are to sail a compass or true wind
course at top speed, we need also to have some means of trimming the
sails. with the easy rig, this may be able to be done with the
fishing lure (probably need a small drogue) as well.

This subject is also being discussed by Dave Culp and Tom Speer (both
cleverer than me at this sort of stuff) on the AYRS (Amateur Yacht
Research Society) chat group, a bunch of boat oriented free thinkers
who amongst other things told me how to calculate the number of holes
required to drain a flooded solid bridgedeck. Depends on the orifice
coefficient, apparently!

Looks like Rare Bird is racing in the Brisbane Gladstone this year.
Waiting to hear from QMYC whether we will be official or not.

regards,

Rob
