Modifications have been made that sorts out the initial problems. The rudders work OK when fully down but require too much effort when partially lifted. I don't see that a corroded shaft is a fault of the structural design, but more an unforeseen consequence of materials. For the rest of the structure to survive after the shaft broke suggests it is well and truly strong enough. Aroha is not reporting any problems with the rudders. I think I would try and remove as much metal from the boat as possible.
