The build a log video was done with a kensington webcam and bundled software. If I was going to do a timelapse today I'd get a used Canon and appropriae shareware (google timelapse). I came across several while I was searching for something to compress several hours of video into a short segment. Apparently the Canon interfaces thru a USB connection and is the camera of choice for time lapse stuff. Sorry I can't be more help.
