Last Sunday I returned home from Finland where I worked on
Arttu's Visionarry, Ono .
Having built his mast and boom he asked me
to glue the mast bearings in the lw hull, and to rig and step the mast on the
boat.
The work on the bearings was pretty straight
forward as all parts were prefabricated in my workshop and sent over with
the mast and boom. Evenso with putting mast and boom together and rigging it the
days flew past. Always lots of small jobs to do you seem to forget about
before and once done you don't remember them.
Arttu also had a long list of small things to be
done, so we didin't get bored.
Launching and stepping the mast went smoothly and
then all of a sudden it was a sailing boat. Without sails though as the
sailmaker was behind schedule and so they hadn't yet arrived. That was a pity as
I really would have liked to sail this boat.
Ono has an enclosed bridge deck cabin where BD has the covered
cockpit.
So the deck plan looks much like Rare Bird exept for the standing
height in the cabin which on Arttu's boat is 1.65 m as on
BD.
Also there are cassette type rudders in the lw
hull. They work well but I noticed their smaller size (1.2 m deep against 2 m on
BD) when maneouvering. We will have to wait reports from Arttu
on the rudder size when sailing.
The two Yamaha outboards are very good for doing
the slow speed maneouvering to get the boat tied up to the
jetty.
The rig on Ono is the same as on BD with a stiffer
mast then the original specs. It only differs in that it has running backstays
so it will be able to keep a straight jib luff in a bit of a blow.
Arttu, I wish you happy sailing, thanks for your
hospitality and the opportunity to have a look around your
beautifull country.
