G'day,

Finally got everything sorted and am ensconsed in the new house
overlooking the beautiful Broadwater planning the mods to Elementarry
so I can get some sailing done. Lots of posts to answer, please let
me know if I miss anything.

I had a leeboard on U. It worked as a leeway preventer, but it had to
be firmly located in every direction. Very disconcerting to have it
floating up to leeward when hard on the wind, which happened often,
for reasons I am unsure about. I swapped it to a weather board
mounted on a fore and aft beam between the beams and tied off to
windward and to leeward. It would then, occasionally, lift forward
despite the boat sailing at a reasonable clip. These little anomalies
were fixable, but I eventually canned it as three foils were more work
than 2 and the rudders on that size boat were not much different to
build whether they were large or small.

If someone wants to try them, I am happy to advise scantlings and
sizes, but I think you will find they are lots of work for little
return, compared to 2 large beam mounted rudders. They are also more
complex than small boards on dinghies or huge ones on barges.

regards,

Rob
