glad to see you are still wanting to continue even if very slowly.
Agree about assymetric foils if only one is being used but there are times when both are nice to have. It may be that the extra efficiency may help in dealing with some of the other difficulties. Possibly an assymetric rudder with an ogive leeboard may work well.

I've been thinking further about symetrical fore aft rudders and the problems of balance. If only the aft rudder is being steered with, then the front rudder can simply have a pin to fix it. The pin could have a bit of adjustment but the rudder wouldn't have to have the same ease of movement as the aft one
