Hi,

This is an interesting subject. There are a lot of stories and opinions.
I was at a meeting yesterday where a guy from a composite materials supplier told about how they
tested different methods on secondary bonding to be done in a 42 ' motorboat hull.
Outcome was they used peelply, no sanding.

regards,
Rudolf

Hello Rob,

You say "no sanding required"

Even with peel ply I would suggest you sand for added insurance of good bond, it can't hert.  Derek Kelsall has discussed this in the past and insist that you should sand even with peel ply finish.  He has had cases where the bond did not hold when stressed  with peel ply finish only.  He is quite adamant on this point and I beleive he has done test on the bonds.

Vinylester for the infusion, epoxy for the rest.  It is important to leave the ve for a day on the table to ensure a good finish, and then another couple of days (more if it is cold) for it to cure properly before epoxying it.  I use peel ply on all areas of the infusion that will be secondary bonded.  peel it off and glue to it, no sanding required.
