Planing is complicated for sailboat hulls, but there are some numbers in by which will keep you amused for a while.  I tried a planing hull on U.  Failed miserably as there was no way to lift the bows of the lee hull.  Not sure it would have been any quicker anyway as the double endedness does not make a good planing shape.  I like flat bottoms for the reduction in headroom required in accommodation hulls.  The increase in wetted surface is offset by the weight and   windage reduction.  Downside is the slapping, particularly on the windward hull if it is ever flown.  Flat is alkso very quick to build.

Hi,

I can't seem to locate any good explanation of how to calculate if a
boat will plane. I was wondering if it would be possible for a
harryproa to plane if it went with flat hull bottoms instead of the
semi-circular ones? How would one figure that out?
