I really like the 2009 setup other than all the lines going from the back of the sail to the blocks.  I wonder if there might be a better way to keep all the wishbones inline.  Maybe if you could somehow torque the top wishbone, the rest should follow.  That would also let you put “washout” on the sail like on an airplane wing so you could depower the sail somewhat without having to reef.  I think to torque the top wishbone you could have some kind of control arm on top of the mast that engages the top wishbone when it is all the way up.  Do you guys think that this would work?

Hi Mike,

 

The reason to have these wishbones on the first place is to be sure of a good sail shape.

That means they have to be rigid. Otherwise in a gust your sailshape would be reduced to some sort of spinnaker.

So the stiffnes of the wishbones keeps the sail shape you need to translate the gust into speed instead of drag.
