Hello,
I have used  Airtech

Airtech has the best prices but only sell rolls.  For smaller quantities by the ft. I have purchased from Fiberglass Development Corp.

The cheaper peel ply tend to have a finer weave and leaves a smoother surface but the heavier more expensive peel ply tends to be stronger and leaves a coarser finish.  I would still sand before laminating additional layers with whatever type you use.  I have been using vinyl ester resin so I do not know how it works with epoxy.

Happy sailing,

I have never had a problem with peel ply, but have heard that there are some materials with unsuitable coatings, which don't work.  Highly unlikely that "release fabric" would be in this category.    I would try heating the epoxy for a couple of hours at 50C (build a tent and use a blower heater)  to ensure it has cured.   Then talk to the supplier of both the epoxy and the release fabric.

Hi,

I tried vacuum bagging a rudder this weekend, laying up the glass by hand with epoxy. It was slow curing epoxy, so I let it cure overnight and in the morning I could not peel off the peel ply. This has happened to me before with epoxy. I have a couple of ideas on what I might be doing wrong:

1) I am using the wrong peel ply ... I have bought some stuff labelled "release fabric", which I assumed was the same thing. How can I tell if something is "peel ply" (i.e. what does it look like, or feel like, or something?)

2) I am waiting too long before peeling it off. Do I need to peel it off while the epoxy is still tacky?

I have not had this problem when I used vinylester, so I don't know if I have to treat epoxy differently.

George Kuch, if you read this, where do you get your peel ply?
