so is is that boomj that slopes up ?
I lowered my boom down again, so it is only clearing the rudder bits.
I guess solitarryrudders are not in the boom's way.

Also I have narrowed down what the problem has been - the turbulence is caused by too little rudder blade in the water. Not by fairness or shape or even it would seem to not be so much a case of how far back it goes.
This  found out this week.
So actually the 0.8m underwater surface depth as per plans is not enough.
I couldn't bear aaway and also got the turbulence even at moderate speed.

So the depth or amount of surface area immersed is important.

The boom will be raisedso it clears them.  The safety lines are a necessity for the single beam, regardless of how the beam is attached to the boat.

can you fit the safety lines below the boom height?

Glass is cheaper, and as the beam is quite deep, I decided to go with glass.  Will see how much it bends, and what other lessons are learnt from it and maybe do an all carbon one.

So far so good, although the build it in one piece idea was not so hot, so I had to cut out the sheer web and will bond it in seperately.  Weighs 60 kgs, whichis almost double the single beams, but it has no carbon in it, does not need trampoline fittings and will sit against the mast rather than need fittings in the lee hull.  Not sure it is a better solution, but we shall see.

Spent the last month or so changing really good ideas (that weren't) about joining the lengths of the lee hull together for other really good ideas (that might be), moving sheds, enjoying school hols with my daughter and waiting for the infusers to get time to build the beam.  Beam is now done, but another really good idea that wasn't means it won't go together till next week.

Will put up some more pics and stuff in the next couple of days.

Looks like I will be in Chicago for a couple of days at the end of June.  How far away are you?

Hi Rob,

I was just recommending this newsgroup to a local boatbuilder, and wanted him to look at how you were building solitarry, in case he might be able to use the techniques to build my harry. I noticed that the last update date on the Solitarry 2 photo album is Feb 24th. Has there been more progress that hasn't made it to the groups, or have you become overcome by events like the rest of us?
