Another option is to mount the mast on the deck, instead of in the hull.  This will save a lot of beefing up, which probably still won't be strong enough when caught aback or capsized.  Let the fore/backstay take the loads.  The mast will all towards the windward side but should not break.  This also gives you more boom clearance.    One of the drawbacks of a boomed rig on a pproa is that it hits the water and causes a capsize a few degrees earlier than it otherwise would.

Todd,

Oh please do post!  I'm in a slump after the 4 day crunch.  Did some cutting and sanding on fiberglass and I still can't get rid of the itching.  The pieces just don't look as good as in my minds eye which discourages me even more.  Plus, its college football season and that distracts me.  I think its a for gone conclusion its not getting done before spring.

Glad you said something about clearance.  Hadn't even crossed my mind.  Since I have the rig, it didn't slap me in the face that I needed to make a decision.  What kind of clearance do I need?  I might have to re-think my mast angle.  My original thought was to have it vertical when still so light winds don't have to lift the weight of the boom.

Go Denis go!!!

Looks sweeeeeeeeeeet, sleeeeeeeeeek and dare I say fast. That leehull looks aggressive to the point of being scary. Sails have a good clearance of waves I hope. This thing looks like its gonna be slicing through all kinds of stuff at speed.

I have had a windward hull a little something like yours for two years I still can't finish it. I can post pic of what I'm up to so far its pretty ugly. Only problem I see with finishing is that I have chemical and mechanical bonds all over the place.
