Gardner, long time no post, was starting to worry about you. First
one was with W, a 12m cat with variable beam, free to pitch hulls and
an easy rig in one hull. 10,000 quid.
The other was a Norwegian Multihull Sailing Assoc comp where I got
second to a tri.  The first design criteria was less than $US10,000 in
hull materials.
I then built harrigami to prove it could be done.   Pretty sure they
started to build the tri, gave up when the cost got ridiculous.

Doubt there will be too many anti proa prejudices in the WB comp, less
sure that the winner will be the boat that is closest to their
requirements (speed, simple, seaworthiness, ease of launching).

Ben,
Harrigami was too slow to assemble.  Took me most of a day, could have
got it down to two hours for two people (not the same as did!)  but
slow compared to the
Farriers, so I did not push it.  Bit of messing about with trolleys
and ramps is what made it possible.  Can't remember what happened to
it, think most of it is in Darwin,
painted bright yellow.

PC Gin pole in a hole and socket is the way to go.  Should be able to
insert the rig into a permanently mounted boom on a stub mast in a
couple of minutes.
Trailerable to me means fast enough to set up to go for a sail after work.

Dennis. Agreed, if I can think of something a bit different. How is
the building going?

Above was written yesterday before a walk along the beach and a
doodle. Specs are:
Fast, BN about 2
Easy to sail, no extras or headsails.
Very quick from arriving at ramp to sailing. Tieing it down/untieing
it should be the longest operation.
Seaworthy, (5m wide, 10m long),
comfortable, sheltered seats
1.8m wide on the trailer (almost as high as an F27, unfortunately)
3 bunks, although one of them will double as a galley bench
Rightable without getting wet. Bit of trickery and it could be self
righting/uncapsizable.
Built from flat panels, with compound curve (I think, will need to do
some samples)

Drawings to those who want a look when I have the details sorted/completed.

Does anyone else find this thread is wider than their screen? Does
not happen with anything else I am doing. Any suggestions?

Did you win these competitions with proa designs? I am curious about any competitions that would give a fair shake to proas; it seems the predjudices against them are pretty strong. Can you give some more info on what the competitions where and what your designs were?

I thought about it, but the guidelines are way too broad and the prize too small to justify the effort.

I have entered two design competitions (1st and 2nd), neither resulted in any plans being sold.
Happy to help anyone who wants to have a go.

I think the maxi trailer sailer with some updating would fit the bill here.
