leeway is the CLR/COE mismatch, yes, i agree.

without the jib the COE moves aft, so you have more weather helm. to counteract you point the rudder more towards the wind, which counteracts sideslip. hence you have less slip w/o the jib.

my question: is the rudder big enough such that it is not stalling without the jib while steering a straight course?

if the rudder is not stalling and you want less sideslip, you might consider angling both rudders more towards the wind.

in my mind, being able to completely crab out the sideslip is one of the HUGE selling points of these style rudders.
