Like anything else, it depends on how well it is made.   I can think of 
only one electrical failure on my boat after almost 20 years of 
saltwater use.   Most of that has been in offshore conditions.  I define 
failure as something that failed with little or no warning.  I wish the 
mechanical items on my boat were so reliable.
