Nothing too special. It is an epoxy undercoat that can be applied to
a mould surface, then the laminate added. Any undercoat should work
the same if you are using epoxy resin for the laminate.

If you are using an ester resin, then sandable gel coat is the best
material, unless the table is very good in which case you could use
normal gel coat and save a lot of money on paint. However, each join
will need to be detailed with gel coat which will add an appreciable
amount of time. Could also use a stick on vinyl stripe along the
joins which will save a lot of effort.

You do need to test whatever you use to ensure the coating/resin bond
is satisfactory for the time window you expect to have and the
temperature you will be working in.

We are using mylar as the table surface (no polishing, very smooth
finish) and the paint worked well. Unfortunately, the mylar falls
apart after 4 laminates, so we are investigating other possibilities.
