I'm sure Rob has all those details but you should include ply. In the comparison. Good properties at a good price and looks good too.

One of the things I loved about it was the way the interiorshowed the cedar through the fiberglass.I did a quick google and I have been unable to find a comparison of cedarstrip vs foam on a cost and weight basis.Note: I am not talking about traditional cedar strip boatbuilding; I amstill interested in making flat panels, but out of cedar instead of foam.I was thinking that perhaps this would be cost effective in areas whichmight otherwise require thick foam, such as the deck over a bunk, or thecockpit floor. The price of foam seems to go up linearly with thickness, soa 4'x8'x1" sheet of corecell runs over $300 US. Could I accomplish the samething cheaper and more attractively with cedar and fiberglass for a 4'x8'cockpit floor?- GardnerMessages in this topic (2)________________________________________________________________________1.2. Re: Cedar strip flat panels? Posted by: "Dennis" spidennis@gmail.com spidennis Date: Sun Jul 7, 2013 1:32 pm ((EST))In my research for wood strip canoes I found a guy doing stitch and glue kayaks but built panels out of strips, ran them thru the planer, cut the shape of the panel desired and came up with a very good looking s and g kayak. I'll see if I can dig up that website/blog for the photos. I know it doesn't answer your questions but could help in designs later. I'll be using these technique later on this week for the first time. I did a test of it and liked how it turned out and the ease and finished quality. --- In harryproa@yahoogroups.com.au, Gardner Pomper <gardner@...> wrote:
