Good questions. I'm just making the assumption that the design on
Steinar's boat will work exactly as planned. They may or may not
work well, particularly at high speeds, but I'll go on hoping that
they'll be great because there's so little that can go wrong with
them. I've been surprised before by people solving proa challenges
that appear to have no solution, so there's no reason to bet against
the bidirectional rudders.
Yet.
If they don't work out, I'd go with the flip-tiller 270-degree
foils on the solitarry.

Is anyone actually using a bi-directional Speer foil?
If so, how nasty is the vortex shedding? Also does the feathering arrangement need any speed to reset its position after a shunt - meaning can the steering be left unattended during a shunt?
