Dear All,

I think this is a good excuse for an update on Sidecar/Sangduennoi/งง.

I bought Sidecar from Doug Haynes in April 2011 and moved him to Thailand in a container where I put the beams back together and enjoyed sailing for about 6 months until the rudders broke.  The rudder breakage was due to a "really clever" idea to replace the PVC sleeves with stainless steel. I learned from that.

Shortly after that I went through some life changes - jobs, wife, location and everything else.  The name Sangduennoi was named after my wife at the time - which is proof that you should only name your boat after mothers and daughters because they don't change.  Sidecar is now named
งง, which is a Thai word that means approximately WTF (Google translate is not very good with Thai).

The last 2 years
งง has been sitting on a trailer on a farm waiting for attention and now that I am unemployed I expect to have time to proceed.  Current plan is to replace the disastrous rudder experiment with another similar to the counter rotating ones that tstproa has used on his models.  They will also be retractable for balance and on the original stub beams.  Steering will still be with a tiller as there isn't enough room for a wheel.  Will also replace the mast as per plans from Rob from 2 years ago.  New rig will be a balestron with wharram soft wingsail main and topsail for the light winds in the Gulf of Thailand.

I hope to document progress at squirebug.tumblr.com.

As always, crew and comments are welcome.

Best regards
Herb
