Fine by me.  Harrys are all about low cost, easy and thinking outside the box.  Polysails fit this description very well.

PolySail International recently quoted two options for the Wharram-type version of a soft sail and jib (31+ M^2 total) for a Harryproa owner -- $1300 for our 7 oz. seamless polyethylene laminate materials or $1050 for the 8 oz. "welded seam" option. Both carry a 10% rebate offer for launch photos and a performance report within 60 days of launch. We are also quoting to a French designer for sails for a biplane rigged cat. Our prices are low because our sails and kits have largely been used by home builders of smaller boats for the last 18 years. Last year, however, we put a 507 sq. ft. gaff sail and 135 sq. ft. jib on a Civil War era replica scow and have heard nothing but praise from the builders. For a hull that was 36' x 12' and estimated at 5 tons, they didn't think 8 knots on an ocean cruise was too bad either. We think it is time for some of our newer PolySails to come out of the performance "closet" for some higher speed sail testing against high cost sails.

Don't be put off by the higher oz. per sq. yd. numbers you see above. Poly laminates are weighed by a "true" 36" x 36" sq. yard, while most sail materials are weighed by the "sailmaker's yard" of 28.5" x 36". Thus an 8 oz. PolySail material is equivalent to a 6 .3 oz. Dacron. One other little fact that many are not aware of is that poly laminate materials are less dense than water (.91 to 1.00), thus their tendency is to float. Dacron, on the other hand, is 1.3 to 1.4 times the density of water, thus  Poly laminate sails are single sheet sails and depend upon certain stretch and resiliency characteristics along with traditional rounding and hollowing and other proprietary manipulations to achieve shape without paneling.

PS. I'm pretty sure I had Rob's blessing to introduce you to our sail products. If not, I'll go back to my closet.
