As I wrote already, the Wantoo folding system looks somewhat geriatric. But as I have been brought up more in an aviation ecology I find the level of safety awareness in the marine environment in general quite unacceptable. So, yes, line and net may already be above average safety protections. An aviation architect would still add the railings, and more than just a couple of wires below knee height. A thick tube frame does look macho as bull guard bumpers on a sturdy looking pickup. It may not take much to pimp the folding system to this look.
Extending this style further, the whole boat could be a tubular frame structure in the style of the Ariel Atom Gallery. Sure beats the ubiquitous flimsy Bimini's in looks. Then, how to have this cheap ;-) ?
