This is a site to determine hp for hull speed that I have found to be quite accurate.  http://continuouswave.com/cgi-bin/crouchcalc.pl


Using a weight per hull of 7500 lbs, hull factor of 250 and a speed of 5 mph the hp required is 3 hp.   One hp is roughly 750 watts.  So to move a Proa 5 mph requires 6 hp (two hulls) or 4.5 KW.

To go 8 knots (9.2 mph) requires 10.2 hp per hull or 15 KW's total.
