Interesting discussion, but I must take issue here:

You are confusing inertial reference planes. This complicates the physics. The situation is symmetric with the proa at anchor in a current. The correct inertial plane is the flow that generates the lift. In which case, both the proa and the plane are moving relative to these flows.
