Simple answer is yes.  As always big diameter and slow rpm with high aspect blades gives highest efficiency.  

The electric pod drive spinning at 1200rpm will be constrained in prop size by blade cavitation.  Top rotational speed on the 540 props on the 18m proa is under 700rpm.

This prop used in its intended application gets efficiency of 83%:

I expect the results surprise many people.  Note that the tiny Flexfold 2B produces the 3rd highest thrust of the 15 tested.  It also gave the best top speed. 

Does this imply that the standard fixed 3 blade prop design can be improved upon?
