The kickstarter campaign for 2 Oceans 1 Rock hasn't even been started yet, therefore to say it fizzled is premature.  Given the name brand recognition of the people involved, I expect it has a good chance of getting off the ground.  Larry Ellison / Team Oracle places a lot of faith in Paul Beiker and this campaign would not take a fraction of  Oracle's mousepad budget.

I'd beg to differ on blaming the media - it is personalities behind the keyboard and the anonymity of the person that gets off on pushing touchy buttons.  Both the Harryproa and Brown/Beiker designs are mature and refined through several iterations.  Both camps have made their choices and set their priorities.  It isn't a surprise that the designs differ in some ways.

The thing that everyone seems to forget is that the important similarities outnumber the differences.  Both are shunting designs.  Both emphasize low drag, narrow vakas.  Both emphasize light weight, composite construction and careful limited application of carbon only where needed.

I also think that a "Clash of the Titans" between Harryproa and Beiker/Brown proas is far less interesting than contrasting proa performance against ANY other mutlihull designs.  Newick's Cheers shocked the world by getting third in an OSTAR - and it cost a fraction of other competitors.  Proas do NOT need to be compared to other proas - they need to be contested against everything else - with everyone conscious of performance delivered and dollars spent.  People need to see that shunting isn't slow, that fast distance racing is possible without canting keels, CBTF, full foiling and multi-million dollar budgets.  Non-proa people need to see that proas give Porsche performance on a Yugo budget.

As far as generating viral response to Bucket List - the idea has already had a pretty good run and make it on to the radar of a lot of people.  Rob has done a stupendous job of talking the talk.  Getting further will only happen by getting one on the water and walking the walk.  I'm encouraged that Rob hasn't taken the bait and make the serious mistake of trying to re-open this idea.  Bucket List and a Gunboat on the same track - brilliant.
