"You can get diesel outboards, but perhaps its better to have the same fuel as your gen-set if you have one, then its only one type of fuel to carry, and no accidents when crew top the tanks off. If you were really game, you could adapt an electric motor to an outboard leg and run off the gen-set. You would need a large generator though, or incorporate a battery supply. "

The motoring configuration depends very much on the req's. Any agreement or disagreement can only mean something against the backdrop of the req's.
The HP cruiser 60 does very well in all wind conditions except in very light winds. Sailing is bidirectional but motoring in very light winds can be kept unidirectional. Motorsailing is only possible in one direction then. Small price to pay for not having to get complicated and go bidirectional with props.
One dedicated engine/prop is fine for trolling. A small drop down swiveling "bow thruster" (jet?) sufficient for close quarter maneuvering.
I would keep battery size down for just electricity for one night but without A/C and solar cells sized for the battery. Rick's solar powered stabilized monohull is a serious threat to the complication of sailing. Until then, I'll wait it out with a gen-set and electric motor combo without large battery bank.
I think this would cover all my bases. What have I overlooked?
