thats a enlightening view of an electric drive system rshipes, that relieves a great proportion of the cost. They make the point that the power characteristics of electric drives are much different to IC engines in that max torque is available at 0 RPM, also max HP is at max RPM. We already know with electric powered cars, that torque is better related to acceleration, and HP is to speed.

At the end of the day the key lesson is as you point out, much less than equivalent to IC engine power is required, however it would be nice to also know what the actual hull speed data is.

Quite persuasive....
