Ballast is important, a stabilizer controlled wing needs to be mass balanced around the wing pivot, trick is to keep everything light so not much ballast required. Most interesting to me was the difficulties with the multi part wing assembly, followed by it seems that he never fully engaged the flaps.


My own experiments so far have been with the Bionic Broomstick.

Bearings are probably fairly important, my current schooner rig under construction is still pretty basic, ball socket at top, UHMW on mast tube at bottom. Real serendipity of Atlantis's approach is the 21% thick wing, easy to make stiff and light.
