CruisingFoiler, "Talador: "Swells are not waves". Ah! So waves are only steep choppy things or things that peak in shallow water and break on a coastline. So swells only become waves when the uniform wave form becomes chaotic and breaks up. Disambiguation at last! To say nothing about the irony of such a pronouncement."
Just trying to simplify things for you (maybe oversimplify). And it works the other way around, waves become swells.
CruisingFoiler,"C-Fly is not "keeping the boat horizontal to the horizon". This flies in the face of the evidence in the videos. It dynamically profiles waves (by which I mean waves, in the scientific sense). Period."
Actually CFly is doing an admirable job of keeping the boat level (horizontal to the horizon).
It is interesting how differently I see the video than you. I see relatively calm conditions with very small waves and the CFly running parallel to the swells. Nothing like most of the ocean sailing I do. If that is what you think ocean conditions are like in 15 to 20 knot winds I can understand our differences in thinking about waves and hydrofoils.
