I probably could have framed this better: "Your single element will either have to be so tall that you must depower before you generate much lift, or so squat that its draggy anyway."  by adding: Relative to a two element wing which, from the Blakeley reference can achieve up to 4 times the lift coefficient of individual elements.  Note that this refers to coefficients, not to aggregate lift added by adding flap area.
