The pivot would add cost, complexity, and weight, and since the system would need to be able to support flying a hull while pivoted to its extreme -- the same stress as a normal beam -- I'm not sure this would save anything.

At that scale; i would feel safer omitting the pivot.
Why wouldn't you extend the beam with an very short ama, and extend that ama with inflatable bows.
That way you can reduce the torque of the ama in survival conditions by deflating the inflatable bows.
