I read a discussion about glass in the aftermath of the gunboat 55 demasting. It was clear to me that crashproof glass like used in cars nowadays prevents lots of subsquent problems when windows get shattered. Using windows from mass produced cars may be the cheapest way to get those, if one can make the cabin fit the shape of the windows of a particular popular make of car. The advantage of the disadvantage is that many of those window shapes nowadays come with curved sides that may fit more easily lower windeage cabin shapes.
