You hit the nail on the head. The hypocrisy of the open cockpit. A cockpit is always too often or too hot or too cold or too wet. It will be covered more often than not as an aftertought. I see it on the most frugal no frills cruising tris as on the sleekest newest racing cruiser designs. If a dodger/bimini will be put there anyway, why not design for it from the outset and accept the price of the added windage. Designed in it should always be more performant, comparatively. Same for HP's ;-)
