I am not dismissing the Proa, but those Marstom M32's look like seriously fast boats in light air, and like rocket ships in medium air.  I would like to see them race Proa's on a reach in medium air ^^ 


About the gennaker yes it would produce a lot more force on the base of the mast because of the moment arm, more than twice what a main sail produces and it might generate compression forces too, all of which would require a stronger stiffer (heavier) mast.

A rotating wing mast is about 30% or more efficient (on most points of sail) than a non rotating mast or a gennacker.  If the Proa can go fast enough to sail down wind and bring the apparent wind around, it becomes a way better sail than the gennacker. It would blow the M32's away, big IF though.
