I think the biggest thing you could do is a Greenbird style wing.  The control is a simple trim tab on the stabilizer.


It would eliminate all the lines, winches, steering issues, shunting issues, reefing, etc. with a more efficient, less draggy design than a sail.

The next biggest thing is to use a regular NACA foil for the rudder and put a plate or a fence on them just below the surface to prevent ventilation.

Use a hydraulic ram on each rudder for positive control and ease of building and installation.
