Rick, "Where has the 10HP come from?  If your boat requires 10HP to do 5mph then it is either very heavy or a pig."

It is a 46' monohull that weighs 25000 lbs empty, the keel is 9000 lbs alone. God only knows how much weight I have  added. A lot of the weight is from solar panels, batteries, the Magnum inverter alone weighs about 50 lbs, etc. etc.

Rick, "The 4T boat needs 1600W at the prop to do 8kts.  That translates to 2285W at the batteries to deliver that power with an efficient system."

I burn a little under half a gallon of diesel an hour which translates to around 10 hp, and that powers the boat along nicely at 5 knots. Under sail I typically average 7-8 knots, even won a Family Regatta here in the Bahamas.  Not a light boat, but not a pig either.

Your 8000 lb boat needs 3 hp to go 8 knots? Okay. How much of that weight is in solar panels, batteries, controllers and support structure for everything?
