Apparently they use plastic bearings with a metal sleeve and a neoprene gasket.

From what I am learning, bearings produce a point load, which needs to be distributed over as wide an area as possible, and they have a fairly low tolerance for high tolerance^^

Right now a metal sleeve against a slick material, seems to be the way to go, simply because it is easy to use as a mould and get tight tolerances and because it distributes the load.

On the other hand, it will have more resistance than a good set of bearings.  I can't find anyone who will tell me which is better. . .
