Hi Rob (Denney),

We exchanged a couple of emails last year about a minimalist cruiser and I sent you some drawing I did ... sorry for the no activity since my computer died ! Now with a new much better PC :-) I am back thinkering designs ...

The discussions about the EX 40 on the forum are very interesting ! And I find I have basically all the same design requirements as Mike wish list. I would like the boat to be as much a weekender as an around the world minimalist but comfortable cruiser for 2.

I attached drawings I did, I would very much like all comments anyone can give :-) I am ok with CAD but have no experience in boat design.

- WW hull : Overall height 2.95m, lenght 10m but really saloon/cabins is about 6.7m (between beams) ...
- Water clearance of saloon/cabins is 0.65m at 1370 kg displacement for the WW hull, waterline length/beam is 10m x 0.5m
- WW hull total external surface area is 73 sqm (including door and windows) .
- LW hull : height 0.75m, length 15m, beam 0.45m ... since I made it lower to fit under the WW hull, I increased the length ... not sure if ok ?
- Overall width 6m
- The trampoline can be slided to the LW side (using a rope loop) before folding so no need to remove it for trailering either. Then slide it back toward WW hull to make it tight since beams become wider.
- There is 1.7 m standing headroom in the cabins close to the saloon division, passage to the cabin could be made from the saloon without going down in the hull.
- Headroom in the center of the saloon is 1.95 m (peoples are 1.8 m tall)
- There is enough counter space for stove, fridge and sink entering the saloon on the left but a bit in the way of the door. (trying to keep piping on the left side also for shower and head). Storage on the WW side of the saloon. I Need to play more with internal arrangement, maybe there is a better way.
- Folded size is about 11.5m long x 2.4m wide x 2.95m height (below 38ft long x 8ft) with LW hull ends folded. It is sad that the height does not fit in a container :-(   There is no way I could find to have the galley up with full standing headroom unless I made part of the saloon floor 0.1m above water surface (1.95m headroom at 1370 kg displacement for the WW hull) ...  not acceptable.
- The rudders can be lifted once the boat is fully folded.

What I would like to do next :
- No sure if I want to make the head and shower beside the main cabin since the piping is on the other side and shoulder room is limited (0.5m) without reducing main cabin width. So the head and shower should be on the other side and higher up in the hull for the head to give more room. Also to have a bit more room at shoulder height for head and shower maybe make the ww side of the hull compounded ... but that would be a pain to make. All the other panels for the design are simple curves which take advantage of your very interesting building method.
- Add an outboard
- Part of a cockpit hard floor could be made to slide in and out under the WW hull center would be nice but add weight.

Sorry for the long post, have been playing with this design for a long time now !
Luc
