Sorry to hear that.
Is that a - forget the name of it now - boom strap, to hold the boom down. That has crossed my mind , wondering if there would be pulling up force from the sail. And is bearing of boom against mast sleeve Enough.
If close hauled/sheeted, then the sheet will be pulling down near to the block.
But sheeted out then the load will be at the mast and boom sleeve.
I remember when building, trying to spread that load and make the boom deeper there.
