Hi,

Sorry to hear that.

Vwery sad, he is a nice guy who has been looking forward to enjoying his boat for many years.

Is that a - forget the name of it now - boom strap, to hold the boom down. That has crossed my mind , wondering if there would be pulling up force from the sail. And is bearing of boom against mast sleeve Enough.

Boom vang.  As the booms are not very long, rigidly attached to the masts and quite deep in section, they should be plenty stiff enough to maintain leesch tension with the sail eased.

If close hauled/sheeted, then the sheet will be pulling down near to the block.

But sheeted out then the load will be at the mast and boom sleeve.

I remember when building, trying to spread that load and make the boom deeper there.

Smart move.  It is one of the reasons why the ballestron and wishbone booms are so good.  Neither of them requires a vang to maintain leech tension.

Bucket LIst beams are now reinforced.  Did it externally as it was too difficult to reliably fit the bulkheads.  We will include them in the build next time.  The mast sections are also reinforced (some internal, some external), next job is making them a nice slip fit, which is repeated sanding and filling.    Also started on the fittings.
