Put the sail on the mast today.   A lot of experimenting, end result looks ok. Max advantage on any line is less than 2:1, so there is probably more we can do with it when the systems are installed.

Poor communication with the sail maker means it is 21 sq m (1m short of 2 telescoping sections) rather than the 12 (one telescoping section)  it was meant to be, so we are testing the telescoping at the same time as the rest of it, perhaps on Saturday.

Video on the build blog and facebook,

Also worked on the rudder kick up/hold down system.  Might tow it behind the tinny and run it up the beach to see how well it works.

G'day,

So am I!  We get the top section of the sail this week and once it is fitted to the mast, see what we need to do to make it work.   We will then get the lower two sections added to the sail and try the telescoping.  The mast sections are pretty rough, it would work a lot better if I had access to a lathe, but it should be good enough to prove the concepts.

All progress will be videod and put on the harryproa Facebook page and on the Building blog at http://harryproa.com/?cat=2.

Any questions, please let me know.

regards,

rob

Hi Rob,

I'm very interested how well the telescopic mast works.
Thanks for the info,
greetings from Amsterdam,

Hans
