Hello Peter, All I can say is that the west coast is a totally different ball game to the Hauraki Gulf. The conditions you saw in the video occur about 5 days in a year. Cape Egmont rarely has a swell less than 2metres and more boats heading south are turned back by the conditions than continue on. If you pick a flat calm you have to listen to the motor for 20 plus hours. No I'd rather trailer it to north of wellington and pop over the strait..

Hello Doug,
Yes Ratapiko is the name of our local small Hydo dam, used
by speedboats mostly. We live 60ks from the coast and the
coast is really dangerous, no safe anchorages for 200 miles
north and 80 miles south, so thus I wanted a trailerable
yacht to take to the wonderful boating areas that NZ does
have. Hauraki Gulf and Marlborough Sounds mainly. It takes
about 2 hours to launch and set up for sailing and twice
that to do the reverse by the time the hull is scrubbed and
motor flushed and everything shipshape so definately not a
daysailer. My plan is to take it for summer holidays at
least twice each summer for a week or three each time, then
it will live in a shed the rest of the
year.-----------------------------------------
