I was making an observation that as I've heard some negative or questioning comments about shunting as being too slow such as in a race type of competitive situation I just don't think it would be very much of a big issue.

I am not experienced at racing sailing so am not sure about what an HP would be like in something quite competitive like the trailable multis regattas in Queensland.

Don't know the course layout etc.

But from what I have seen I don't think shunting would be much of a drawback, and in more amateur/mixed social racing you should be able to comfortably blow the opposition away regardless of having to shunt when other may be tack and gybing.

I relate to just wanting to beat the local folk and anyhow I think race fees are fairly steep and strict with excess gear needed to qualify for entry.

I don't know, but imagine the light wind large spinnaker runs are HP's weakpoint if anything.

Hence Rob's focus in that area?

Obviously longer length races would not even be needing hardly any shunts.
