Wind normally comes out of the north to north west in the Algarve, so very little swell off the coast. However on this day it was coming from the SW for a while, so we were sailing almost downwind. However if you look at 20170627_124449.mp4 and the Portuguese courtesy flag you will se the apparent wind is almost sideways. Hence, while we tried wing-on-wing, we found it was much better sailing a very broad reach.
