Rob and Steinar,

  It's gorgeous!

I lament the loss of the second full table/bed, which was a really cool design in the first version, but it clearly had to go to make room for the galley and head.  Those flip-stools are also a very elegant solution.  Now with the integrated tender, it's all there.

Very nicely done.  While every boat may be a compromise, it's going to be hard to find a boat that maximizes all of the individual conflicting goals as much as the Ex40.  Some will want more space to live aboard, some will want an even faster speed demon, but just about nothing can get as much out of both of these categories as this new design.

And transportable too?  With all that deck space, a seaworthy tender, a real motor, and a rig that will let you depower, turn, or lower the sails in any weather?

It's an ocean-crosser that can live in one's backyard.

This makes an F-36 look ridiculously overpriced, ponderous, inconvenient, and fragile (rotating mast with fittings and stays up the wazoo).

Of course, I'll readily admit that I'm biased.  The praise for the design might make me sound like a fanboy, but it' really stems from the fact that the boat maximizes what matters to me.  Any bias present doesn't take away from all the contradictory goals that the design somehow manages to satisfy.

Thank goodness these renderings weren't available before we started building our house.  We'd still be living in our old apartment.  Or we'd have a nice house, but not our dream house (the cost overruns due to slipperly slopes would have paid for the proa...).

The 360 degree views of the X40 revisited are stunning in elegance and economy of space. Excellent use of the "through" of the ww hull.to equalize head height while standing, high seated or regular seated.

Thanks

What is the deck clearance height of the first platform?

270mm/10.5" and it is 670mm/26" wide.  The next one is 565mm/22" and 1220/48" wide. The rest is 770mm/30" high, less a bit where the tender hulls protrude.

I suppose there are no structural impediments to also have windows on the lee side to create that modern catamaran 360 view? External window covers there could double as outside seat back cushions.

MNo reason at all.  I would if it was mine.  They could also be opening as they are to leeward so unlikely to leak.

The tiller arrangement looks a bit like Jacknife's. With push pull rods?.

Full circle quadrants and lines, although push/pull could be used.  There are a lot of options for the steering.  The first boat looks like it will have 2 tillers on a common axle in the centre of the boat to allow it to be steered from inside and without having to change ends.  Tillers and extensions are another.

I have the impression that this configuration would also simplify the Air40.

Yes, and some of the bigger boats.

Impressive, Steinar..

Agreed..
