Hi,

Not sure about every issue related to design layout. I guess for the cold climes it may be more needed to fully enclose the cockpit.
I would not have to consider that for if say cruising Aust, NZ, tropics etc.

The spray the cockpit area might feel will only come from the ww bow. So for the spray protection you should only have to have the windows etc covering straight ahead. To lw could be open, without doors, as spray should not come from that direction.

Don't know how you would steer and sheet from inside exclosed cockpit.

Did you sail much in the rain? In the cold? In what kinda seas? You have written of sailing in weather IIRC. How was that?

The Great Lakes are known for squalls and changeable weather. Two other area builders have noted the importance of a warm dry cabin.

Plenty of great lakes boats do not have cabins, one should note. But if I want to sail farther from home than most do, I think I should pay attention to the cabin.

|El camper sidecar was very comfortable how I had it. Was not an issue with spray even being out on the cockpit deck.

You had a well thought out layout, I think. Pram top, and nice cuddy.

|Not sure how it scales up to bigger boats.

The videos I have seen are pretty dry.

|The tiller ext's required not too much attention.

Did that remain so in adverse weather?

|Robin Warde was saying how he could tillers untouched for a long time a boat kept sailing straight.

Yep. But the videos are in nice weather. What if it was fierce out?

At some point, he would reef and let it pass, I guess. But at some point, the thought experiment goes, dial down the weather until you feel you want to keep sailing, but wish you weren't getting wet and cold.

And then think about how you should change the cabin arraignment.

At least that's my guess. I really have no idea.
